ABOUT BROOKE'S VERSION

The whole idea with los angeles real time is to create a big story from lots of interconnected smaller stories. On a constructionist level laRT is about seeing how much a creator can do with as little as possible. The best way to grow as a creator is create as much as possible with as little as possible.

With Brooke's Version I wrote the script using old fashioned conventions I'd learned at AFI. I've created an "improv script" template that I think is much better suited for story videos, but I've found that the professionally trained actors I work with have trouble creating characters outside of conventional boundaries. I often wonder if I moved to another city if this would be the case. Anyway, with this script my hope was, despite the dialogue, the actors would go in more original, interesting directions. This was not to be - apparently they liked my words so much they insisted on memorizing and giving more traditional performances. Luckily, Tom and Jocelyn are both amazing talents and I think they still managed to improve on the source material.
